How dependable do people find the Fusion drives? Do they have a high failure rate? Do users have to replace them frequently? Apple tells me that I can not even have the Apple Store techs replace a Fusion Drive with an ssd (or the reverse), even if I offer to pay them to do the work and buy the new component, so the decision I make has to be the safest. Is the Fusion Drive fast enough that image access would take more than twice as long as the solid state drive? The way I use my current system I keep the raw images on a separate solid state usb 3 drive, both to save ssd space and to try to provide a fast access time for the images when I am editing them. How much longer would this be with the Fusion drive? How much longer would this be with the Fusion Drive? Twice as long? Less? More? CaptureOne starts in about 12-15 seconds, including loading the thumbnails from the previous session. Lightroom 6 brings up the catalog dialog box in about 3 seconds. The next question relates to application startup times. Is it an old 5400 rpm drive? A newer 7200 rpm drive? How large is the solid state cache that is associated with the drive? Is it dedicated to boot up operations only? Or is it dynamic so that it remembers what users mostly do and keeps those in cache? My first question would relate to the spin speed of the Fusion Drive. The term "reasonable" is subjective so perhaps this will clear things up a bit.

How do you define "reasonable"? What are your expectations?Īll reasonable questions.
